title: Phasmid

directed by: Patrick Costa

written by: Patrick Costa

starring: Mick Moreau

synopsis: A little story about identity theft.

director's notes: The basis of the story line came from a blend of thriller\suspense films like Se7en, mixed in with some CSI type stuff.

The idea grew and morphed and when it was in it's "adolescense" it looked a lot like Dexter. In fact, about a week before we started shooting it was such a strong resemblence to Dexter, we nixed props and pieces of story line.

The idea for the body disposal was an accident that happened to me 20 something years ago. I was really poor. I was buying whole chickens and putting them in a crockpot and making soup. Through a series of misdirection and accidents, I ended up not getting home for about 48 hours after starting a particular pot of soup. When I got home, the bones were all gone. The soup tasted awful and I poured it down the drain. The memory stayed with me as useless trivia until this film started to gel.

In the end, the question was what does one do with all that time? We were disussing how long it takes to liquidate a 401k, get last pay check from a job, etc and the story just kind of fell into place.

The film was never suppose to have sound. It was supposed to have voice over with back ground score, but when I the score came back, I was so impressed with it, that I cut the voice over to next to nothing.

I wanted to use as much natural light as possible. There are places where the yellow incandescent bulbs contrast blue\white outside lights. I liked that when I saw it in the lens.

The backlight of Villian coming up the stairs was an initial accident, but after watching it, I started exploiting it. Things that are natural and things that are "supernatural".

This film was shot entirely with Canon XL1 and edited with Microsoft Movie Maker.
